MIPTV 09 - Daily Report - The Final Day
Big crisis, big changes, big opportunities

Big crisis, big changes, big opportunitiesAfter this Thursday, the MIPTV 09 is over with mixed sensations. On one side, the global crisis shows its face and most of the budgets have been cut. On the other, the content market has proved to be alive and with important business to come. Also, the crisis generates important changes. For instance, in Spain , a special law of the government has determined that two free TV channels can go to merger, if their accumulate market share does not exceeds the 27 percent. It is said that Antena 3 and La Sexta would merger… by the end of 2009, the Spanish TV market promises not to be the same, adding the ‘Analogical black-out' that is about to come.

Two weeks ago, it was announced that Warner Bros. has bought the 31 percent of CME, the media group that manages more than 20 TV channels in Central and Eastern Europe . About the CME, it is also said that some of these channels would develop a second station in their countries.

The agreement announced during MIPTV between Fremantle Media Enterprises and the Chinese production company Asian Union -they create a new company, Vision Ventures Media, to increase the trade in factual programming to and from China- adds another tip. Asia is a step closer to western content business, and the exchange deals will proliferate from now. But usually, we know, more than collaborating the partners want to get the market of the other.

After interviewing many buyers at MIPTV, Prensario has confirmed that fiction has gained space from entertainment, ready-made product has recovered slots from production and the customer looks for new providers to get better conditions. All of these changes the map of the market, and opens important opportunities than in the pre-crisis times were very difficult to get.

MIPTV 09 had about 11,000 participants, from last edition 13,000. The figures were better than expected, and the most important thing was that in terms of business, most of the companies have said they had a good market. Above all, changes are emerging and there are lots of aspects of business to develop to be better.
